Special post today – it’s my first ever blog swap! This swap was organized by 20SB and my partner is Berrack from The World Is My Jester. Hope you enjoy reading about her favourite childhood summer vacation! You can read mine over at her blog.
Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m Berrak (Formerly known as Princess Q or the DC Princess) from The World Is My Jester and I’m excited to be partnered up with Sara for this 20SB Blog Swap.
When I first heard the topic for the swap, I thought that I would immediately have a memory pop up in my head but I struggled. My family and I took a lot of vacations when I was younger, and they were all memorable. The one that stands out the most though, is the first summer we went back to Turkey after moving to the US. It was the summer after I turned 13 and we spent a couple of weeks at our beach house.
My grandmother, along with a few of her relatives, bought property that eventually became a community just a few minutes’ walk from the beach on the Mediterranean. So 14 years ago, summer vacation meant being close to extended relatives, which was perfect for a kid who was homesick. A lot of interesting things happened on that trip but the one thing that stands out is the day I learned how to ride a bike.
Oh yes, I didn’t know how to ride a bike until I was 13.
One of my cousins (second…or third) was adamant about teaching me even though I was afraid. He made me get on that bike that was a little too big for me and taught me the basics. I only fell a couple of times but once I got the hang of it, I was flying around the houses, waving to everyone having dinner on their front deck. One of my great uncles and his family got a fun little show as I came flying around the corner, not fully in control of the brakes and my turn. Instead of turning, I went headfirst into a field of tall weeds and thorns!
But don’t worry – that didn’t slow me down for the rest of the trip.

That sounds like a lovely summer vacation!! I always spent my summers with my grandparents! They had a lovely house next to the ocean- so I spent my days at the beach, reading, drawing, and writing! It was lovely…I miss summer vacation…now summer is just a time when you have no excuse to not be getting work done!
That sounds so nice! What I wouldn’t do for a house next to the ocean…
